1、 In the first nine months of 2024, the export value of agricultural products between China and EU countries reached the highest value in nearly five years, while the import value dropped to the lowest value in the same period

According to customs statistics, from January to September 2024, the total agricultural trade between China and EU countries was 22.18 billion US dollars, a decrease of 5.4% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 9.3% of China's total agricultural trade. Among them, exports amounted to 8.74 billion US dollars, an increase of 7.1% over the same period last year, accounting for 11.9% of China's total agricultural product exports; Imports amounted to 13.44 billion US dollars, a decrease of 12.1% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 8.1% of China's total agricultural product imports. The trade deficit was 4.7 billion US dollars, a decrease of 34% compared to the same period last year.

 

2、 The Netherlands is China's largest export market to the EU region, followed by Germany in second place, and Spain in third place with the highest growth rate among the top ten export markets

From January to September, China exported agricultural products worth 2.31 billion US dollars to the Netherlands, an increase of 16% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 26.5% of the total agricultural product exports to EU countries; Exports of agricultural products to Germany amounted to 1.78 billion US dollars, an increase of 3% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 20.4% of the total agricultural exports to EU countries; Export of agricultural products to Spain amounted to 1.25 billion US dollars, an increase of 16.2% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 14.3% of the total export of agricultural products to EU countries.

 

3、 Among the top ten EU import markets, imports from Germany and Italy increased by 18.3% and 10.7% respectively year-on-year, while the rest of the import markets experienced varying degrees of decline

From January to September, China imported agricultural products worth 4.635 billion US dollars from France, a decrease of 8.1% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 34.5% of the total agricultural product imports from EU countries, making it the largest source of imports for China from the EU region; The second place is the Netherlands, with an import value of 2.28 billion US dollars, a decrease of 23.2% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 16.9% of the total agricultural product imports from EU countries; The third ranked country is Germany, with an import value of 1.87 billion US dollars, an increase of 18.3% over the same period last year, accounting for 13.9% of the total agricultural product imports from EU countries. Among the top ten import sources, Bulgaria experienced the largest decline, with a year-on-year decrease of 61.9%.

4、 In the first nine months, exports of seafood products to EU countries have rebounded and stopped falling, while major agricultural products such as feed, seasonings, fruits, and products have maintained a relatively high growth rate

From January to September, China exported aquatic products and products worth 1.39 billion US dollars to EU countries, an increase of 2.3% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 15.9% of the total agricultural product exports to EU countries. Among them, fish and products amounted to 1.01 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 2.1%; The price of squid and squid products was 175 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 23.5%. The price of shrimp and products was 120 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 8.6%. The price of algae and products was 60 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 28.5%.

The export of feed to EU countries was 745 million US dollars, an increase of 28.4% over the same period last year, accounting for 8.5% of the total export of agricultural products to EU countries. The export of seasonings and spices reached 310 million US dollars, an increase of 17.9% over the same period last year, accounting for 3.6% of the total agricultural exports to EU countries. The export of fruits and products reached 280 million US dollars, an increase of 66.7% over the same period last year, accounting for 3.2% of the total agricultural exports to EU countries.

In addition, the export value of grain products, nuts and products, meat and products increased by 19.8%, 31.2% and 11.5% respectively compared to the same period last year, while the export value of vegetables and products, and casings decreased by 6.5% and 2.7% respectively compared to the same period last year.

 

5、 In the first nine months, imports of dairy products, meat, alcohol, grains and other major agricultural products from EU countries continued to decline

From January to September, China imported dairy products worth 3.16 billion US dollars from EU countries, a decrease of 18.2% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 23.5% of the total agricultural product imports from EU countries. Among them, infant formula milk powder was 1.86 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 15.6%; Liquid milk costs 400 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 20%; Whey costs 320 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 11.3%.

Imported meat and products amounted to 1.83 billion US dollars, a decrease of 31.3% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 13.6% of the total agricultural product imports from EU countries. The main products are pork and offal.

Imported alcoholic beverages amounted to 1.8 billion US dollars, a decrease of 19.3% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 13.4% of the total agricultural product imports from EU countries. Among them, wine based spirits amounted to 900 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 24.3%; Wine costs 550 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 11.4%; Beer costs 310 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 15.9%.

Imported grains amounted to 1.17 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 19%, accounting for 8.7% of the total agricultural product imports from EU countries. Among them, wheat reached 710 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 129.1%; Barley costs 410 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 55.7%; Corn costs 60 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 74%.

In addition, the import value of feed, seafood and products, and vegetable oil decreased by 20.2%, 19.1%, and 39% respectively compared to the same period last year.

 

6、 In the first nine months, Shandong, Guangdong, and Jiangsu provinces were the main agricultural export provinces to the European Union.

From January to September, Shandong Province exported agricultural products worth 2.36 billion US dollars to EU countries, an increase of 14.2% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 27% of the total agricultural product exports to EU countries; Guangdong Province exported agricultural products worth 1.36 billion US dollars to EU countries, a decrease of 3.4% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 15.6% of the total agricultural product exports to EU countries; Jiangsu Province exported agricultural products worth 730 million US dollars to EU countries, an increase of 8.1% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 8.4% of the total agricultural product exports to EU countries. Among the top ten exporting provinces and cities, Yunnan Province had the highest increase in export value, with a year-on-year growth of 29.1%.

 

7、 In the first 9 months, Shanghai, Guangdong, and Beijing were the top three provinces and cities for importing agricultural products from EU countries

From January to September, Shanghai imported agricultural products worth 3.34 billion US dollars from EU countries, a decrease of 19.2% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 24.9% of the total agricultural product imports from EU countries; Guangdong Province imported agricultural products worth 2.73 billion US dollars from EU countries, a decrease of 19.7% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 20.3% of the total agricultural product imports from EU countries; Beijing imported agricultural products worth 1.405 billion US dollars from EU countries, an increase of 2.1% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 10.5% of the total agricultural product imports from EU countries. Among the top ten importing provinces and cities, Fujian Province had the largest decrease in import volume, with a year-on-year decrease of 36.2%.
